EMDR Therapy in North Carolina
At C&C Betterworks, we are committed to providing our clients with the most effective, evidence-based therapies available. One such therapy is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR. EMDR Therapy is a powerful tool that can help individuals process traumatic experiences and move towards healing.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR Therapy is a unique, nontraditional form of psychotherapy designed to diminish negative feelings associated with memories of traumatic events. Unlike most forms of talk therapy, EMDR focuses less on the traumatic event itself and more on the disturbing emotions and symptoms that result from the event.
Through EMDR Therapy, patients can learn to more effectively manage their reactions and emotions related to the trauma. The therapy uses an eight-phase approach that includes having the patient recall distressing images while receiving one of several types of bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements.
Understanding EMDR and Its Benefits
Understanding EMDR is key to appreciating its benefits. EMDR is considered particularly effective for those who struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It can also be used to treat conditions like anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.
The goal of EMDR is to fully process past experiences and sort out the emotions attached to those experiences. Processing does not mean talking about it. It means setting up a learning state that will allow experiences that are causing problems to be digested and stored appropriately in your brain.

If you’re diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, or AuDHD as an adult, it’s common to feel both reassured because you finally have answers — but confused about what the information means or who to share it with.
Understanding the “Window of Tolerance” for Adults With ADHD and Autism
There’s a reason small things can feel huge when you’re neurodivergent. By understanding why our nervous system performs in a certain way, we can anticipate triggers and have the choice to make adjustments.
What Autistic or ADHD Burnout Looks Like in Adults (and Why It’s Misdiagnosed So Often)
If you’re neurodivergent — living with ADHD or Autism — burnout doesn’t just mean “I need a long weekend.” It’s your brain and body throwing the emergency brake. Eventually, your nervous system says, “We’re done here.” Cue the shutdown, fatigue, and feeling like you’re failing at basic life.
Why Therapy Feels Totally Different After You Know You’re Neurodivergent
Therapy before you are diagnosed with ADHD or Autism can feel like an endless symptom chase. You leave each session with a new strategy, but suspect you’re missing the bigger picture.
Most Adult ADHD Tests Were Built To Miss People Like You
The diagnostic process was built for someone else. And it's still being used on adults with entirely different lives, symptoms, and stories. No wonder so many of us walk away from the process more confused (or more gaslit) than we were when we walked in.
